"FRANCIS CROSSLE CELEBRATES CENTENARY"

Francis Crossle Lodge No. 83 held its Centenary Celebration Dinner on Saturday 28th October 2007 in Newry Masonic Hall.
The Dinner was the highlight of the Lodge’s Centenary Year and was attended by the Grand Master, M.W.Bro. George Dunlop and the Provincial Grand Master of Down, R.W.Bro. Robert J Armstrong.
The toast to the Lodge was proposed by the Provincial Grand Master of South Connaught, R.W.Bro. Basil Fenton, who is a good friend of the Lodge and a regular attender at its Installation in January each year. The W.M. W.Bro. Marshall McConnell suitably replied on behalf of the Lodge.
The Lodge was Constituted in Newry on Friday 25th October 1907 with 29 founder members. R.W.Bro. Francis C. Crossle, one of the founder members, was Provincial Deputy Grand Master of Down at that time and permitted the Lodge to take his honoured name as its title. He became Worshipful Master in 1907 and 1908.
The principles on which the Lodge was formed and which were important to R.W.Bro. Crossle, were Fellowship and Charity. The Lodge is extremely proud that it has been able to maintain these principles at such a high standard during the 100 years and presently, its giving to Charity (per capita) is one of the highest throughout Ireland.
On the occasion of the Centenary Dinner, the Grand Master also presented a 50 year jewel to W.Bro. F.D. Gray – unfortunately, W.Bro. J.D.F. Fisher who was also to receive his 50 year jewel, was unable to attend, being in London to receive his O.B.E.
